The Heart of the Indian Home

More Than Just a Room

In Gujarat, the Living Room (or "Hall") is the most multifunctional space. It’s a reception area for guests, a playground for kids, a cinema for the family, and sometimes a dining spot. Designing such a versatile space requires a balance of aesthetics and durability.

The Layout Strategy

We focus on conversation circles. The furniture is arranged to encourage face-to-face interaction while maintaining a clear view of the TV unit.

  • The Focal Point: Usually the TV wall. We use Italian marble, stone veneer, or fluted wooden paneling to make this wall a piece of art.
  • Seating Configuration: A mix of a large 3-seater sofa, a loveseat, and accent chairs or ottomans provides flexibility. The L-shaped sectional is a popular choice for maximizing corner space.

Material Selection

Since this is a high-traffic area, materials must be robust.

  • Upholstery: We recommend high-performance fabrics that are stain-resistant for families with kids, or genuine leather for a luxurious, age-gracefully look.
  • Coffee Tables: Nested tables are trending as they can be expanded when guests arrive. Marble tops or tempered glass are preferred for easy cleaning.

The Ceiling & Lighting

The False Ceiling is crucial for living rooms. It hides air-conditioning ducts and wiring.

  • Cove Lighting: Provides a soft glow for relaxed evenings.
  • Chandeliers: A central statement piece that defines the height and grandeur of the room.
  • Spotlights: To highlight wall art, family portraits, or textured walls.

Decor & Styling

The finishing touches make the house a home. We help curate:

  • Rugs: To define the seating zone.
  • Curtains: Double layered—sheer for day privacy and heavy drapes for night.
  • Greenery: Large indoor plants like Fiddle Leaf Figs or Areca Palms to bring life to corners.

FAQ

How to make a small living room look bigger?
We use a palette of light colors (whites, creams, light greys) which reflect light. Large mirrors are placed opposite windows to double the visual space. Furniture with exposed legs (mid-century modern style) shows more floor, making the room feel airier.
What is the trend for TV units?
Floating TV units are very popular. They look sleek and make floor cleaning easy. We often combine them with vertical wooden slats or backlit stone panels for a dramatic effect. Hidden storage for set-top boxes and wires is a must.
Do you design partitions?
Yes. In open-plan homes, we use 'Jali' (lattice) partitions made of CNC-cut MDF or metal, and sometimes glass partitions, to subtly separate the Living area from the Dining or Pooja area without blocking light.
How do I choose the right sofa size?
It depends on the wall length. As a rule of thumb, the sofa should leave at least 18 inches of space on either side. We ensure the sofa doesn't block the pathway to the balcony or dining area.
